Ignite

by Adam Smith

No matter what I choose to do with my life and time, writing has always remained at the very heart of my pursuits and passions. From music and teaching, to performance and marketing, it is always my words and my storytelling that underpin my output.

And that got me thinking: why is that? What is it about writing that keeps on drawing me in time after time? What am I doing all of this for, and what impact do I want to have?

This poem is my answer. And, if you’re here reading this? I’m incredibly happy to have you along for the adventure.

My mission?
My mission is ignition.

To strike a match, strike a pose, to strike it lucky and strike a blow
to all that that you deem “normal” and to all the things you know;
to have lightning strike twice, three times, four;
to strike oil, strike it rich, strike out and strike a chord –
to be some music in the monotony, to shake out some soul rather than scroll,
to scratch some rhythm in your blues; to be a rock in case you roll.

We’re not here to make a living; our time living is an event,
so let’s inject a little bit of life in here and make it time well spent!
Let’s make these moments matter, let’s make this matter most.
Let’s overfill our hearts, our minds, our champagne flutes – and make a toast:

our mission is ignition, to drink inspiration and innovation;
to get drunk on all the bubbles and be abubble with sensation – so please,
accept this poem as your cordial invitation
to take a break from your routine, your stress and your obligation and,
with the deepest exhalation,
let’s discard some of your frustration and your aggravation and your plight

and let me be the match you strike.

Let us spark.
Let us ignite.
