Breaking Silence | Original Song

by Adam Smith

The second single from our EP ‘The Lies We Lead’.

Enormous love and thanks to Hannah for her mesmerising rendition of the Breaking Silence dance, choreographed by the brilliant mind of Katie Law. Thanks also to Alice for our makeup in the latter parts of the song.

There are a lot of instances in everyday life when we are compelled or required to do or say things that go against our ideals, beliefs, morals or desires, but – to avoid conflict – we remain silent and do them anyway. In this endeavour to be amiable and good-natured, we sometimes end up feeling taken for granted or even as though we are being taken advantage of or disrespected.
This song is about the inner turmoil we face in those situations and the yearning to break our silence. Not only that, but the song is intended to empower those who perhaps feel insecure or unable to stand up for themselves, or those without a voice.

Too much disquiet in anyone’s life can lead to a breakdown, which is what we hoped to capture in the crescendo of the music and lyrics here. This is our interpretation of a mind in suffering and a body at its limits.

I’m waiting
For a reason to be / justified in heart and mind to cause a catastrophe
I’m trying to
Repress the hope / the hurt / the hate
That surrounds me like this cage / that you chain me to
Don’t catch these tears because
As you watch them fall
They’ll turn into oceans
And drown you all
So I’m waiting / I’m still waiting

To rip down every burning star I find
And watch the fear engulf you like a tide
I’m waiting / but I see clearly in the dark
You’re the sickness in my mind but I’m the knife straight through your heart

I’m sick and tired / of all the liars
I’m sick and tired / of keeping my mouth shut
I’m sick and tired / of all the liars
I’m sick and tired / of this misery
So I’m waiting / but I won’t be waiting for long
Cherish what time you have left / ‘cause I’m waiting

I’m sick and tired of all the liars
I’m sick / so sick / of this misery…
