The first single from our brand new EP ‘The Anchor’.
Capsized was the second track that emerged during the writing process of our new EP. Lyrically, writing began with the chorus: the melody and harmonies came first, and the lyrics soon after. The song uses the waves and beach setting as a symbol for the toing-and-froing of life and the decisions we all must make along the way – even when we later dislike the choices made.
The song also considers the futility of that regret, and that ultimately reality wins out and nothing can alter the past we built.
Let’s play / Let’s play make-believe
Let’s make / Let’s make sandcastle cityscapes
The tide / yeah / will wash away our memories
We’re fake / but this is as real as it gets
Let’s forget / let’s dress ourselves in cloud formations
Soaked in regret / asking oceans to justify the flood
I scream into these waves
and plead that they’ll wash away
Our sandcastles built with shame
before the lies fall apart
Capsized / there’s a shipwreck but you’re just a wreck
Inside / you’re falling / we’re falling apart
Let’s forget / let’s dress ourselves in coral reef
Drenched and distressed
Asking ourselves how do we sleep at night
I scream into these waves
and plead that they’ll wash away
Our sandcastles built with shame
before our lives fall apart
